Gift of Life Wall

A Gift of Life Wall

On Monday, May 22nd, CHI Oakes Hospital unveiled their Gift of Life Wall, which pays tribute to organ, tissue, and eye donors from across their service area. The evening opened with remarks from representatives from CHI Oakes Hospital, LifeSource, Minnesota Lions Eye Bank, and Dakota Lions Sight and Health. Kim Ketterling, a living donor spoke of her donation journey. Ashley Peterson and Allie Hill shared their experiences as family members of donors recognized on the Gift of Life Wall. The program closed with music from Karleen Willde, LifeSouce Ambassador and Miss Northwest’s Outstanding Teen 2017. Everyone attending was welcomed in to the hospital to view the wall, and also enjoyed a supper provided by the Oakes Lions Club and the Oakes Area Chamber of Commerce.

The wall was made possible by a donation from Trails4Transplants, an annual long- distance multi-week trail ride with a mission to raise awareness about the need for organ, eye and tissue donation. This year’s ride travels from Edgeley, ND to Bird Island, MN over the span of 2 weeks. For more information, please visit www.trails4transplants.org.

The Gift of Life Wall not only pays homage to donors, but will be a lasting memorial for donor families to visit, increase awareness about donation throughout the community, initiate conversations about donation, and save more lives. CHI Oakes Hospital invites the community to come to the hospital as you are able to see the Gift of Life Wall. If you would like more information on honoring a loved one on our Gift of Life Wall, please call Kim Ketterling at 701-742-3291. If you would like more information on becoming an organ donor, please visit www.donatelife.net.

Pay It Forward

Earlier this year, the Oakes Junior High students, along with their teachers and administration, started a “Random Acts of Kindness, Pay It Forward” program for local businesses. The school honored all city employees as the first recipients and provided a lunch for those employees. They were in turn asked to perform a random act of kindness for another business and keep the chain going. To date, the following businesses have been recipients and then paid it forward to another group.
