CHI Oakes Hospital Awards Scholarships

In 2003, CHI Oakes Hospital, recognizing the need for highly trained professionals in rural health care, began an educational gift program. Now, in its tenth year, the program continues providing financial support to outstanding area students. The OCH Educational Gift Committee has selected Tanner Zetocha and Jacob Greenmyer as this year's recipients. These two individuals will each receive $750 to be applied to the cost of their education in a medical field.

Tanner Zetocha graduated in May from Oakes High School, and will be attending the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks this fall, majoring in Physical Therapy. After graduation from college he hopes to return to a rural healthcare environment where he can get to personally know his patients, and where he can continue to be active in the community and church. During his high school years, Tanner was active in many school and community activities, including basketball, football, band, FFA, and church youth group. He was the Senior Class President, a peer mentor, and a member of the Junior Bank Board.

Jacob Greenmyer graduated in May from North Sargent High School, and will also be attending the University of North Dakota this fall, where he will be majoring in Biology and Pre-Medicine. Jacob states that his exposure to the medical field from an early age, along with growing up on a farm in rural North Dakota, have taught him that quitting is not an option, and given him a good work ethic and sense of pride. He is committed to giving back to a rural community when he becomes a physician. Also very active in his high school, Jacob was Senior Class President, a member of the National Honor Society and the All Academic Team, and participated in basketball, football, drama, band and track. Among his church and community activities, he lists Relay for Life, food drives for the local Food Pantry, mowing at his church and cemetery, and volunteering for Meals on Wheels.

Congratulations and best wishes to these outstanding area students. Their gifts and talents will be much needed and appreciated in their chosen medical field
